For those of you that don’t know, I left freelancing behind around 3 months ago to rejoin the world of full time employees.
An interesting opportunity came up to work with a company on moving their product forward into the world of AngularJS and NoSQL solutions.
VQ Communications Ltd (Excuse the website, it’s being rebranded soon(TM))
It was a tough decision on whether to say goodbye to the freedom of working for myself but ultimately, the reason I started freelancing and contracting was I couldn’t find a company to provide a job that interested me frankly.
The jobs around the Bristol (UK) area all seemed to be focused on “the boring stack” as I call it, ASP.NET + SQL Server + jQuery, not exciting at all. It does mean I am 40 miles away from the official office but most of the team are remote.
With my new role I get to help a company take huge steps forward into a modern .NET world, where we use NancyFX, C# 5 and NoSQL solutions to help the company scale to meet a changing market.
Its a huge win for me I think, I get a big interesting challenge to focus on but also I get to keep parts of my freelancer lifestyle. I work from home mostly, wear jeans, ride my motorbike to work and get to work with interesting people.
My blog posts going forward will focus on :
- Continuous Integration (Jenkins, PSake)
- Continuous Deployment
- Testing (integration mostly)
- NoSQL (this may or may not be RavenDB, the next blog post will explain)
There may be some cross posting between this blog and my company blog. Generally this blog will be more informal.
